Jennifer Dietz Honored as 2008 OC Businesswoman of Influence

The following is a write up that accompanied Jennifer Dietz's nomination to the Orange County Business Journal's 2008 Women In Business Awards

The myth of 'Superwoman' persists because of women like Jennifer Dietz. Not only is she a career professional, but she is a happily married mother of two teenage girls with whom she is 'totally involved', and she also volunteers in numerous organizations and nonprofit activities.

As the daughter of a US State Department engineer, Jennifer grew up in Korea, India, and Indonesia. Jennifer received her Master's from Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management in 1979 and immediately went to work for Industrial National Bank in Providence, Rhode Island (known as Fleet National Bank today). After two years, she relocated to Southern California and took a job in the treasury department of Fluor Corporation. Her greatest moment there was when Fluor sold St. Joe Gold in the late '80's, and she was responsible for investing $650 million in one day. By practicing, she became a proficient investor and when the big day came, she had all trades completed by 9 AM!

Jennifer married Jon Dietz, FSSI's founder, in 1982. FSSI has been located in Santa Ana for 15 years and currently employs 150 people. After the birth of her first daughter in 1988, Jennifer went to work full time for FSSI as the company's CFO, overseeing all the accounting and banking relationships. She then proceeded to design most of the business processes that guide this B2B service bureau as it receives data, processes it, images it on high speed transactional laser printers, and then mails the documents on state-of-the-art optically collating mailing machines. She has also served many interim positions including Operations Officer - learning the technical aspects of the company - and managing both the Sales and Client Services departments. She continues to work with the company's sales force to negotiate with clients, and personally approves all contracts. Jennifer is well-respected by her management team to whom she is a dedicated mentor.

Jennifer is extremely proud of her two daughters, Tricia (19), a freshman at UCSD, and Christina (17), a junior at Beckman High School in Tustin. She enjoys being an active mom so much, that over the last twenty years she has opened her heart and home to two young women from Kenya, three young ladies from China, and a High School exchange student from Thailand. While living anywhere from 6 months to 2 years with them, she taught them life skills (including driving), responsibility for personal issues, and nurtured them as her own daughters.

Jennifer's life extends into the community as well. Every Wednesday night during the summer, she hosts the youth ministries of Irvine Presbyterian Church at her home swimming pool. The pastor has described their home in a sermon as 'Dietzyland', because the pool is so much fun for all the kids. Jennifer also serves as the Treasurer for Caring For China, a nonprofit that manages orphanages in Central China, and recruits and sends English teachers there. For the past five years, she has organized an exchange program with Vanguard University to give students an opportunity to teach English in China. She currently serves as treasurer for the Beckman HS Marching Band.

Addendum: Following the May 12 earthquake in Sichuan, China, Jennifer managed the collection of almost 1000 donations to a special earthquake relief fund that brought immediate assistance to those in the affected areas. Over $100,000 was raised and distributed.
