Job Description: Financial Statement Services, Inc (FSSI) is a leading producer of statements, invoices, and other direct mail products. FSSI provides Fortune 500 companies with innovative programming, printing, fulfillment, internet presentment and archival services.Currently we are recruiting for a Controller. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and will direct the financial activities of the company’s accounting department and participate in developing company strategies, goals and policies.

Listed below are the primary responsibilities of the position.

  • Provides management with timely reviews of the company’s financial status and progress in its various programs and activities
  • Prepares reports which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations
  • Directs methods of reconciling postage funds, including balancing to meters and to customer postage accounts
  • Advises management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities
  • Directs determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets
  • Oversees purchasing processes of company – ensures competitive bids are submitted, approval requirements are followed and vendors are approved.  Reviews and signs payable checks and other checks as directed by management
  • Audits all commission schedules and reports
  • Oversees payroll processing, including payroll, taxes, workers’ compensation, 401(k) and insurance reporting and audits
  • Oversees all tax filings and audits, including payroll, sales, and property taxes. Advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax code revisions
  • Arranges for CPA review of company’s accounts. Works with CPA to prepare reports required by regulatory agencies
  • Establishes relations with banks and other financial institutions
  • Assists management in maintaining relationships with landlord and other critical vendors
  • Manage, motivate and train the accounting staff to establish goals and assist in career development.
  • Will work on other projects assigned by CFO as needed.

The controller candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience and 10+ years’ progressive development. A strong working knowledge of general accounting; including general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, receivable and MS Excel. Experience in Solomon/Microsoft Dynamic SL preferred. Excellent written and communication skills. Strong attention to detail, flexibility and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
